2. Visit the licensed center, registered home-care and/or nanny.
3. Trust your instincts and your child's instincts.
4. Review the daily schedule, curriculum, policies, philosophy menu, learning environment...
5. Check references - state licensing, parents...

Encouraging Responsibility & Helping Clean-up.
1. Simplify the task by breaking the work into small tasks. Instead of telling your child to clean up their room, specifically identify what needs to be done (i.e., pick up your toys and put them in the toy bins, make up your bed, sweep the floor). This helps make the task more manageable and clearly communicates your expectations.
2. Have clearly marked designated storage bins. For younger children, it is best to use clear storage bins and label the bins with a picture of its contents along with the name. For example, if it is the building blocks, label the bin Building Blocks along with a picture of building blocks in front of the bin.
3. Make it fun and appealing. Children learn through play and a fun way to make the task more appealing is singing while cleaning - sing a clean-up song! Also, before cleaning up, spend time with your child and teach them their responsibility to help out around the house.
4. When finished, compliment them for doing a great job. Compliments go a long way in reinforcing and building self esteem. Tell your child what they did well. Affirm their accomplishments!
